Hey guys:
I'm a newbie to the 914 and am expecting to trailer home my first 914 in a few weeks. The car has not been started in 4 years, but turns over. It's in great condition. I've seen pics and a friend of mine local to the car just checked it out for me today and it's a real find! I can't wait to see it and get it home!! Anyway, what things should I do to get it up and running and in what order should I do them? Any thoughts/comments are greatly appreciated! Thanks! Andy...

Hey... you were the one who started it with the anti-freeze comment! Hee hee!
Everyone on 914club likes to give people a hard time... but it's all in good fun. No one takes it seriously. Regards, Karl

You need to lighten up.
Most of the 914 addicts on this board and "others" are very joking in nature. You're being treated as if you're the newbie, or "kid brother" of us all. That's just our way of welcoming and desensitizing you. We're just giving you virtual noogies! Welcome aboard and post all the questions and even "stupid" ones you want. Also search the archives, because many answers have already been given. The search feature is in the bottom right corner of the screen. Just type in a few words that might occur in a post.

Some 914's have antifreeze. Joe and I both have conversion cars with radiators. For sure you want to check the fuel lines going to the injectors and the tank. Those are high pressure lines and they do crack over time. When Joe bought his parts car I drained the fuel, sprayed WD-40 in the cylinders, drained the oil, put in new oil, put in new gas, cleaned the plugs, put in a new battery, and it fired right up. It was in storage for 10+ years. The brakes were frozen and did not work. The fuel lines were all cracked and I had gas spuirting all over the engine compartment. I shut it down right away and replaced all the fuel lines to the injectors. He drove the car for a few weeks before we pulled the engine and put in a 2.6 liter big 4 with carbs. Of course we replaced the front calipers with 320i brakes and the master cylinder was swapped out for a 19mm. We had to change the ball joints, the tie rods and some other work. He just needs to get the body work done now. The car is really really strong. Good luck. You had asked what to do, this was what I did on his car.

Oh, Andy, welcome to the board. Karl does really good work so if he tells you something, trust him. Miles is a jokester, he likes to poke fun at people but he is just like anyone else. He is often the target of others making fun. Dave Darling is extremely sharp on these cars along with many others on this board. If you need information about these cars. this is a virtual gold mine of information. These guys have been there, and done that. But we all like to have fun. Good luck with your new project.

My best advise for 914 repairs......Duck tape! Keep it on hand at all times!
And Miles, watch your attitude! ![]() Later I am getting into something more comfortable. Toast Oh, and 914zim....welcome to the board! You will find tones of information here and lots of laughs......try not to get addicted and develop insomnia. If you do there is help..... ![]()

to get it running, Clean all grounds and check all electrical connections
to keep it from becoming a WI car-B-Q replace all rubber fuel lines and check the stock plastic for signs of damage. If you are up for it replaceall of the plastic lines with steel...
