Carb Identification
Hi, Im Chris, I'm a lurker and an Ebay addict.
This forum has begun to cure my first problem. Great info and thank all of you who un-selfishly contribute. I've had the 914 jones for about 33 years, and 3 years ago took the first step to a cure. Today I decided to clean up the engine compartment and install a crankcase breather. One thing led to another... Since I had the car I've tried to figure out what kind of carbs these are. Please help ID these, and I promist to lurk no more. Much thanks in advance, Chris K. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

It looks like an old Solex carb. I have a set of old Dellorto carbs that look similar but the filter bases are integrated into the carb and the one here it is not. Good luck.

Are they 1 barrel or 2 barrel - they look like the Weber/Holley/Solex 2 barrel progressives.
When I get to the office on Monday I will look for a sample "look alike", but based on the number on the base I would say Holley. Fitted to Pintos and a few thousand other cars.

This is a single-barrel carb, which would have been mounted in pairs. Note that it sits on top of a manifold that sits directly on the head, not on a center plenum like the "Pinto Weber" does.
I'd guess Solex or Kadron (which is also Solex). But it really is a guess. --DD

Ok Dave, your eyes may be better than mine, but I see two throttle shafts and two venturis in the pix showing the return spring. Plus, it is a square base carb and if you look at the manifold, the carb sits on a common plenum and splits to the cylinders from there.
The singles I've seen do not have a square base.

Looks like a 32/36 Weber (or clone there of) progressive to me.
Note that if it is dirty inside they are very nearly impossible to clean out. Didn't someone make a dual progressive kit "back in the day"?

The number on the base of the carb is a Holley List Number - R 7760.
Translates to Model 5200-C, 1973 Pinto 2 Liter, all trans, Economaster. The renew kit for it is Holley # 3-716 It is a 280 CFM, 2 barrel progressive carb.

DOH! I totally missed the second throttle shaft.
And yes, someone did make a kit to put two of these carbs on a Type IV motor "back in the day". It didn't become wildly popular, though. --DD
