Just wanted to know what happend to the guys in Northern CA. who used to go to the "Pre- historic" car races at Lagune Seca every year? This was a week before the Historic car races. The 914 club seems a little weak these days. They were a great bunch of guys.

Ahhh, isn't that more appropriatley called the "Hysteric Car Races"? The guys get so hysteric that someone is gonna cream their babies, they drive REAl slow (Of course if I had a half mill into a car I might get a little hysterical myself - more shock therapy Doc, I think I had a glimpse of reality)

The Roadglue guys (http://www.roadglue.com ; http://groups.yahoo.com/group/roadglue) used to drive down every year for the pre-historics. That would be this weekend, of course... I haven't heard of a trip this year.

in 1998 I saw a guy come out of the Andretti hairpin squirly as hell, still on teh throttle, he plowed into the outside wall on turn 3, He got out of the car, walked to the front end and dropped to his knees with his hands on his helmet. The car was a 196X Ferrarri, one of six ever built, one of three still in excistence and the ONLY drivable example of it's kind. I guess money can not compensate for lack of driving skill. He was all alone in teh turn. The Marquee this year is Ford. In 98 it was Porsche's 50th anneversary

Ahhh, 1998 ... Glory Days
In 1998 I had the honor of being one of 2 mechanics on a 7 car team. One 904 and 6 Spyders. We had the Michael May 550 with the adjustable wing, a center-seat RSK, two RS 60s, one RS 61 and a regular, plane Jane 550.
I helped build a couple 4-cam motors, and I got to drive the center seater around the pits - on the track?!?! yeah, right. Anyway, I also turned 18 at the Historics - Aug. 14, 1998 Then, on the 15th, I drove out to Bonneville, UT to the Salt Flats where I watched my friend go 200mph in his 53 Studebaker. THAT WAS THE BEST DAMN YEAR FOR MOTORSPORTS!!!!!!!!!!!! PS - Porsche also won Le Mans that year with the generation 2 GT-1. I remember it on display in the Honored Marqe tent ... still covered in road dirt and bug guts. |

Heh, yeah that was cool. I got to drive my 914 in the parade laps at lunchtime at the Historics.
![]() ![]() Considering how many Olympic Blue 914s there are out there, it was kinda weird that I was the only one in the Porsche Corral--not to mention the only one doing the parade laps... --DD
