Plug wires to distributor cap wrong??
Hey guys:
I tried to be really careful when I replaced my plug wires, paying close attention to which wire went where on the distributor cap. When I went to put the cap on, I needed to rotate it 90 degrees to get the 2 clips attached, which got me thinking... Does this mean I have them connected wrong? If I'm looking at the cap on the distributor. which is #1, #2, #3 and #4? I know the firing order (from Haynes), but I'm not sure if it matters how the wires connect to the cap. Please help this newbie out! Thanks!! |
The cap is keyed so that it only goes on the distributor one way.
When the distributor driveshaft is installed in the correct orientation, the left-front cap tower is for the #1 cylinder. (Note there is a thin line in the distributor body toward the left-front--this scribe line indicates #1.) The right-front is #4, the right-rear is #3, the left-rear is #2. The distributor turns clockwise, and the firing order ("Zundfolge") is 1-4-3-2. I'm more visual, so I remember where #1 is and that the left-side wires cross while the right-side wires don't. --DD |
