Driving to Monte Rey Historics

motor is in, it runs well, no smoke. I'm gonna drive my teener to Monte Rey tomorrow....from San Diego 426 miles, up over the Grape Vine, in August, any suggestions? let em rip!
I would like to extend a special thank you to the National City Police Dept for their generous encouragement, without which the car might have still been in pieces. Tonight I shall prey to the 1.7 D-Jet gods

Hop on PCH for a while. It will be a beautiful ride, espically in the 14. I drove up to Montery from Riverside on 1 a few years back. It is an unforgetable experience. I traveled inland for a while though, over the grapvine and such. I will send you know the route I took sometime tomorow.

Have Fun!

p.s. It rains up there alot and is usually overcast. Just FYI.

You cant beat the LA traffic, you will hit it either way you go. 10:00 would be a better time for you to leave your house and head up. You would hit LA area around 11:30 or so and it wont be as bad as later in the day. Good luck on your trip, if you have any troubles in this neck of the woods, give me a shout. I will be between Costa Mesa and Long Beach most of the day. You should still have my cell phone number, If not, drop me an email and I will send it to you.

The only way to beat the LA traffic is to leave at 3AM. And yes I'm serious...

You can be to Glendale by 5:30...

Oh, come on, I go from LB to Culver City every day and i get there in 25 minutes. Ok, I leave at 5:45, but yeah, at 7:00 it'll take 1.5 hours. That sucks majorly. Coming home is a whole nother topic...I have had many 2 hour+ drives home...24 miles. Did I mention that it can suck?

I'm going through the 909 tomorrow to punch out a job in Palm Desert. Only 385 mi round trip.
Today was 175 mi round trip...LB to Ventura to Simi Valley back to the Ranch in CC.

I Love LA...?

In my experience in driving from SanDiego to Monterey, you absolutely MUST be by LAX by 7am. If you're not, you're screwed. In the best off all worlds, you'd be on 101 by 7am. Made the trip a lot while the "boss" was at the Navy Post Graduate School, so I have some experience in that 450 mile drive. Best!

I am thinking that the A/C would come in real handy in the afternoon.

All of the above. If you're not by LA by now (the time of this post) you're in heavy traffic. I always leave for an out of town destination before 6AM or earlier. 2 weeks ago, I was on the 405 at 5AM on the way to Willow Springs on a weekday. I saw at least 3 late model 911's going to presumably their jobs. I guess when you put $80,000+ in yout ride, you better get to work on time. LOL. Seriously, I think these guys are in the stock market.
