Engine shipping
Complete with everything but the car.
![]() What's the best way? I need it coast-to-coast, door-to-door. Hurry up is good, but doubt if it will make a difference... Cheap is probably better. M

Forward Air.
You strap it to a pallet and take it to them. They do the rest. It is "Station to Station" only, so your consignee must go get it. www.forwardair.com

Go LTL via truck - check pricing with local freight lines - I shipped one from CA to TX - wasn't that much, but it is "Station to Station".
The goat could do it.

Closest forward air is 3 hours (no transpo there either..) i have to move the car from where the engine is coming out, arrange cartage from LAX, wait weeks on end, then trailer the car back, or of course, work out something like that on a truck..
This 2.0 motor is going to end up costing me $10 effing K. Anyone have a leaky 2.0 I can replace my ****ed up new one with? It's not fun man, damnit! M

hmmm, here is a odd idea...
... what about repairing the existing engine. Oil leaks a fixable, typically for small $$$ and definitaly for less then 10k. I shipped a 2.0 vanagon engine from TX up north for less the $100 terminal to terminal.

Try contacting Jake's website. He has some info there on crating and shipping. If it's not there I may have saved some of the info on my home PC.
IIRC the costs to go coast to coast was around $350 Cheers Kerry

Drain the oil before shipping (easiest to do before removing from the car). Ask me how I know.
Strap it down to the pallet.

To those that don't know, this is a return to be re-rebuilt (4800 miles) as apparently the cam bearings are bad, and I think it's a webcam.
Hey $350 SUCKS, that pisses me off!!!!!!!!! At this point, I would have been better off taking a cab, $1.80 a mile. So, I am going to be in this motor over $7k, just ****ing great. This is a ****ing nightmare, I'll never have another engine rebuilt. M

I believe that VW and Porsche engines were originally ment to be thown away, not rebuilt. Makes sense why they need to be re-rebuilt within the first 5000 miles...
AAARRRRGGGG. I feel for you M. My bug has cost Ted and I more money in the last few years (months really) than I care to admit. Wish ya luck man.

I know its 3hrs away for forward air, but I just shipped a 911 engine from WI to CA for $87. Thats CHEAP!!!!!!!!!! It helps that I also used a plastic pallet and shrink wrap to keep it down.

I ended up taking it to Old Dominion freight here, and the guy cut me big slack, shipping it classed as something it wasn't.
About $400, $200ish each way. Would have been more without friends. M
