When you say 2 liter and 1972, I think 6 cylinder. The 2 liter 4 was not an option till 73. So is it a 6 or did someone upgrade to the later engine? Or is it really a 1.7 liter? If upgraded, what year engine did they put in? All of this is needed information to judge the value of her car. Rust or accident repairs should be taken into consideration as well. It is hard to tell without seeing the car. Good luck.

restored 914 friend
What a neighbor hey! Doesn't waste any time. The 914 in question is a 1973 2.0. 4 cyl. 95hp D-Jet and 53,000 original miles. Body totally restored (had only some rust around headlights and back quarter panels), original wheels and no accident history. Interior restoration not complete as yet but winter is coming. The VIN # starts with GA. I've seen everything from $500 to $25,000 for other 73's. When I can figure out how to attach a picture, will do so. There are not very many of these in Canada and adjusters have a hard time putting a value on them (mopar fanatics in Canada). Would appreciate any feedback or any tidbits to help convert Mr. Mopar to Mr. Porsche.
THANKS. |

Well, the book value is around $4700 or so I think. However, you would be hard pressed to find one for that. That is probably about all they would give you in the event of a claim.

To attach a picture, click the "Post Reply" button over on the right side of the message. That will take you to a new page where you will find a link that says "Attach Multiple". Browse for a file, then click "Upload Now!". After that happens, close the window and keep typing. Then hit "Submit reply".
Please limit the size of attachments. Anything over ~600-800 pixels wide causes the window to STRETCH and is a bit oversize for easy reading. You can check "Excellence" magazine; once per year they have an issue that lists what they think the values of 914s are. Figure somewhere near $6000 or so for a really cherry "driver", maybe $7000 because of the very low miles. If the car is in "beyond excellent" condition, prices can go into the $15,000+ range very quickly. (But that $25,000 guy was smoking something IMHO...) But the insurance company won't pay attention to anything other than the "book" value. ![]() --DD

The current (Nov 2003) issue of Excellence lists a '73 2.0 in excellent condition for $7150, in good condition $5341, and in poor condition $4698.

So, a car is worth a new engine.
Sounds fair! In your dreams, Mr. Insurance Pants... Geico this! M

Of course, we're assuming that the indicated miles are the actual correct miles. I'd want to see a good bit of documentation to prove that. 914 odometers go from 99,999 back to 0 again, and swapping out the odometer (with the speedo) is pretty trivial. Not to mention the propensity the odometer has to just plain stop working...
