| Registered | Rear Trunk Unlatches
Hi All, My rear trunk unlatches while I'm driving. But when I close it, it locks & won't open even if I tug on it. When I activate the solenoid it opens fine. What's Up??? Thanks, Gary Quote:

We had this happen on our 1974 and the latch parts were worn just a tad too much. When driving the body would flex or twist some and be just enough to get th elatch to pop loose. You could try adjusting it a little tighter but replacement is usually the cure. I think replacement parts are still available too?

especially if the trunk is jostling around sideways so that the actuator (plunger) is pulled out of position by inertia. maybe also an intermitant short?

It's the lower part. Maybe the little cam thingy. It's easy to remove, insepct, and replace.

ROFLMAO! I found that answer hilarious. Ok, not many people would fit in a 914's trunk but if he owned a big ol' Cadillac or something that would be a great insult directed at the ex-wife! | ||

If she is too big... remember... you have TWO trunks! Ha ha! Plus it will help with the weight distribution for better handling!

You just have to play around with the adjustment on the top piston............I had to do that until I found the sweet spot!

Thanks for the input. I've adjusted the upper latch to the point where the solenoid won't open the trunk. Had to pull the release wire from under the trunk to open (so THAT's what that's for...) Re-adjusted...just a little. Drove around the block & it stayed closed. Real test tomorrow - after I drive it to work.

I had to replace the lower part. I tried everything. Got a new one and it works fine now.

I got it from Ron Meier awhile back. I actually have a few of them here but we were out on the Temecula Run and I needed it.
