Is the selonoid located near the starter?

There is a yellow wire coming out of the main wire harness and I think it goes to the solenoid...is this correct? Thanks

Yup!, It is the power from the switch. Without it, the car wont turn over. It plugs into the back of the starter on the soleniod.

thanks for the reply. I looked at the starter and noticed that i had a wire coming from the alternator going to the starter (yellow wire with a 'plug' end and the that wire splits and plugs into the tranny) The other yellow wire that comes from the wire harness has a circle end on it that is about 1/8" diameter. I can't seem to see where this wire might bold up to the starter. Any suggestions? Thank you.

If it is coming from the alternator and is a heavy guage wire with a loop, it should bolt on with the big red wire from the battery. I dont remember mine having that but I could be mistaken. I know there are 2 wires bolted and one wire plugs in. I know the yellow wire plugs in

There is no wire coming from the alternator that plugs into the transmission. There are four wires from the alternator, in two "harnesses". The three-wire harness plugs into the relay board, while the other wire is quite thick and is the one with the loop connector on the end. It is held onto the back of the solenoid (which is attached to the starter on our cars) by a nut.

There is another wiring harness that runs through the rear engine bay tin. It comes from the relay board and has several wires in it. One is the yellow wire to the starter. Two of them are (black and yellow?) and plug into the reverse light switch on the transmission.

...There may be a couple of other wires in there...

By Nut, do you mean the small metal part with threads or the mechanic?
