Horn switch
Putting it all back together. The PO never had the horn working. I replaced the two horns, ground the wire in the column and violla loud blast. Now for my problem. As I look down at the steering wheel with the center horn pad removed I see a wire that the PO crimped a female spade connector to. On the horn pad He riveted a home made brass male end. Not knowing any better I pluged the female to the male and can not get the horn pad on. Put the wire through the hole above were it comes out of the column and still wont go on. Disconnect the wire from the pad, push it out of the way pad goes right on. Me not being a rocket scientist come to the conclusion that this setup is wrong. Looking thru catalogs I see a horn button contact. Is this what I am missing and were would it go. Also I noticed that if I am missing this piece therer is a 73mm and 44mm.

Don't know if the contact button will solve your problem or not but I do know that my '70 takes the long one and, I believe, all the rest take the short one.

Actually, I think the setup as described is correct for a later car. That's how both of my 74s were, at least. Except for the riveted part--the stock part has the tab cut from the metal and bent out, which is why it always fatigues and breaks off.
I don't think you run the wire through the hole. See if it will go if you run the wire out of the steering column next to the hole. --DD
