Just attempted to change out my "stock" oil pressure sending unit with a "dual" style so that I can connect my new oil pressure guage. But it won't fit. It's to large in diameter to fit thru the engine tin. And even if it did fit, I would have no way to tighten it up. What's up with that??? I'm considereing adding an extension tube to make the installation a lot easier. How is this condition usually addressed???

You need to run a short hose and mount it remotely, this is a common problem.
AA used to sell a ready made kit for this but they no longer stock it. You really just need a hose with the correct ends and clamps. dr |

or a nipple but i don't know where you would get a metric nipple. like he said, you need the hose kit (~ 15 cm hose and adapter).

Pelican has the extension hose. The sender should have had a mounting bracket shipped w/ it.

The bracket, hose, and some adaptor fittings come in the "Adaptor Kit". Call to see if it is really NLA or not.
If so, try a grease gun hose. The hole in the case is 1/4" NPT. Yes, US threads. You'll need adaptors get the other end of the hose to fit the sender, which is also 1/4" NPT. And make sure that you ground the case of the sender. --DD

I'm pretty sure it's 1/8 NPT (which is about 1/4" in size so it is easily confused).

I don't think the sender for the light will work with the gauge properly. You need to have the correct VDO sender for oil pressure.

The "idiot light" sender will give you infinite resistance (no connection) when the oil pressure is above ~4 PSI, and zero resistance when the oil pressure is below ~4 PSI. It is a switch.
The sender for the gauge is a variable resistor, and goes from (to pull a number out of the air) 500 ohms when the pressure is zero down to about zero ohms when the pressure is as high as the gauge will read. It varies smoothly throughout this range. If you hook your gauge up to the light sender, it will read 0 PSI until your oil pressure drops to nothing. Then it will "peg" at max. --DD
