Weld the case ???
I'm finally getting around to rebuilding the original engine in my 73.
She sprung a leak last year. She's bleeding bad :(:(:(:( The question I keep pondering. Should I use the case I bought from Ron M. Or just have this case welded ? From the looks of things. It just fatigued from the lack of the oiler washer/shim. What do you guy think ?

Here's a picture of the hole.
I did repair it with JB Weld, but I was too chicken to run it. In fear that there was metal inside.

I'd run a different case - there could be a lot of fatuige in that case that you don't know about.
Different case, no doubt. Tom |

Yeah, just use the new case. Check it to make sure it's straight and all, but it'll be a lot less hassle in the long run just to start with another case.

I had Ollie's give a once over before it made the trip to the great white north.
My only concern are the main bearings. I think broken case has oversized by .20 if I remember right.

Ok, so get a new set of bearings to match the new case. Check the crank, etc, etc - take this oppurtunity to freshen things up a bit.

This engine was balanced when it was rebuilt 4ok ago. So thats the way we'll go again.
One of my neighbors is an automotive machinist. MOPAR guy. Just found out he's moved the "go to" shop in Missoula. He'll walk me thru it. His daughter works for me. After we got the driver for my son, she wants her dad to get one for her. Right now I could probably sell about 5 of the 3k variety with much trouble.
