Kevin, If you are just looking for someone to ride up with you, I may be able to go. I dont want to drive my car too much yet till I get everything dialed in. I have never been up to Willow Springs though and would like to see what all the talk is about. I will know towards the end of the week for sure if I can go. Call me.

I'll be heading out about 5:45, but you don't want to convoy with a pickup and trailer.

Kevin,
I will be running in the event Saturday too. Be sure to swing by and say hi. Same convoy deal as Andy -- I leave here about 5:30 and try to keep it around 58-62mph when towing -- easy prey for the CHP if you push it much faster. My car is orange, #214, and super loud ![]() Be sure to take a few laps at lunchtime if you want to check out the track (not sure if you have been on it before?). Lunch laps are usually open too all; no helmet etc required either. BTW I was on the big track today with OTR (Open Track Racing) and it was a fabulous day out there. It was 30° in the morning but the sun very quickly warmed it up to the mid-60's, fairly sunny, and no wind! Track conditions were damn near perfect.

Yeah, Chris, that Wednesday track day was fun ... save for my second lap pirouette
![]() I have to say, though, even the full-race 911 I was driving doesn't handle near as well as my semi-race prepped 914-6. It just wasn't very "confidence inspiring." |

MR9146; Why does your sig say deceased? Did you do the nasty deed at Willow? Sorry if that's the case.

My 914 was murdered by a 17 year old girl who didn't look to see if the there was anyone coming down the street before she made a U-turn from the curb right into my path of travel.
The car may be brought back to life - a la Robocop - but, as of right now, the patient has been pronounced dead. I have a line on a 914-6 shell and a $200 junk mobile/parts car that may allow me to be up and running within the next **tearing eyes** 5-6 months. ![]() Last edited by Mr9146; 12-05-2003 at 09:19 AM.. |

Not to hijack the thread, but where can I get info on what you have to do to get on the track and run it. I know zippo. drew365 mentioned a school to get licensed so I'm sure that's a bare minimum. I know once I start driving (pitiful isn't it that I'm still not) I'll want to AX it a bit.

To run the POC Short Track Series (STS) you need a helmet with a DOT rating dated after 2000 and a long sleeve shirt. Also your car needs to pass tech inspection. They will check wheel bearings, battery tie down and seat belts. To start your seat belts only need to be stock. This series runs on the short track at Willow Springs in Rosamond, and it is probably a lot like running a large AX. You will have to ride four events with an instructor along and one of those events must be a school. The school is no big deal. You spend a little bit of time in the classroom, some on the skid pad which is fun and the rest of the day on the track. Trouble is they only schedule one or two schools per season, so it's best to catch it early rather than wait. After that if you still want to run the series, that means your pretty well hooked and you can figure on spending every spare dime you have on making the car faster, not realizing that it's never going to be fast enough because there's always someone else that's faster.
![]() You don't even need to be a menber of the POC to start, they just charge $25 more for entrance fee for a nonmember. |

Cool. Thanks. So you go through the school at the track for that I presume, not necessarily through POC or SCCA? Maybe next year or the year after.
Wish I could cruise with you tomorrow Kevin. Have fun! (as you say)

Hey, woodman, the AX at Irwindale is a lot more 914 friendly. Cheaper too. Also a heck of lot closer. Even though Streets is a 'short track' it's still 1.5 miles long and cars regularly go 80-120 mph depending on class.

That's even better Milt. I'll have to check that out. We'll see if I can get her to go 80!
