Wheel Polishing 101
Got a question about polishing Fuchs:
I've read many articles on polishing out wheels. I'm wondering how (or if) minor curb rash can be sanded out. Has anyone done this before & do you have any tips that might prevent me from ruining my wheels. Thanks..............................Vern |

I think on the deeper scratches they actually weld in some metal and then polish it out. You cannot sand out a deep scratch without mis-shaping the outer lip. That is just a guess by the way, I dont know for sure. It just seems logical to me.

Mornin' folks
![]() It's possible with LOTS of elbow grease to get rid of decent sized scratches, but skline's correct - you will at the very least see a low spot if they're very deep - (that is if you had the patience to sand for a week). You have to start off with some heavy grit wet-dry, and use soapy water (wd-40 helps cut pretty good too). Then work your way with finer and finer grit, even 1000. You can also finish it with fine steel wool (try to scuff in one direction, it blends better). I gave up on polishing my cookies, and just freshen them up with a rousingly good scuffing every now and then. I've sanded out some really gouged-up dirtbike swingarms and polished them up real purdy (only to fall over in the first turn and watch 30 people run over the bike ![]() Give it a shot! Later Jeff
