My suggestion would be to buy them where you get the best price and most of all, the best service. In my experience, it has been our host, Pelican Parts. I always get the right parts, great service, and since I am in California, it's very fast. The for sale board is also a good source.

They all look the same because of the software... ya know year make model blah blah blah...And considering most will be drop shipping the parts from possibly the same wholesaler... You have ask yourself a question ... Do you feel luck, well do ya? or order from Pelican.

For most of my Purchases, I order from Pelican. If there is a significant price different or availability I may order elsewhere.

For me, 2 things stand out with Pelican. If I need something, I can call and have it the next day. And just about everyone is super friendly and helpful, with one exception...

Unless it is completely unavailable elsewhere, I will not do business wth AA.

I've gotten good used parts from Partswerks in chicago. Yhey sell alot through ebay, and for some things are overpriced (gotta get profit where ya can, I guess). Nothing beats PP for quality, reliability, consistancy, and that friendly family atmosphere! Prices are usually the best I can find , too!

I first try PP. Then I price compare with VW Type 4 parts as applicable. The HUGE qty. of type 4 vw parts keeps the prices down... AA? No. Never again.

If you keep looking, you'll find more. There are currently 163 online parts retailers that use systems that link to one of two main distribution companies. The colors may be different, but the look and feel is all the same.

My first choice is a swap meet or pick a part, Pelican is my second choice, www.thepartsbin.com is my third.

I've bought one time from Tweeks (phone order) and my credit card number got ripped off and all kinds of things were charged to it. I couldn't prove it was tied directly to a tweeks employee but it was one heck of a coincidence. I've never bought anything from AA and I intend to keep it that way.

Isn't there an online parts retailer called "European Auto Sports" (or something similar) that has good prices? I can't find their web site anymore - does someone have the URL?

I use:

pap-parts.com (ex: flywheel, new $198.00; rear bearing $38.00)

********.com (ex:clutch kit six spring $249.00)

I've given my share of money to Pelican, $800+. My problem is shipping time from the West to the East coast. GPR is on the west coast but my emergency stuff, which is all the time, comes from pap-parts.com plus they do free shipping once in a while. I've also placed orders from Stoddard Porsche.. Cheap prices too.

I also got my rebuild alternator from drivewire.com for $65.00.

Hope that helps. Pelican is great too.

For good used parts and a straight up guy call Brad Mayeur in East Peoria, IL 309-694-1797. After checking Pelican first.

1) Parts car
2) Hershey PA in april
3) VW aftermarket - Caifornia import parts
4) Pelican Parts, and if they didn't carry it.....
I've used GPR, (caliper kits that were more complete than PP at athe time) European Motorsports, (Shorty T4 DCNF manifolds) and Aircooled.net (Mallory Ignition stuff - good for engine stuff) FAT performance (Trick T4 parts) Pierce Manifolds (Weber parts)

All had great service and competitive prices except Caifornia import parts, who have lousy service and really great prices on various bosch things and rubber grommets and other bits. If they have no stock in their warehouse, you can't place the order and they won't backorder anything - its what they have that day.

Parts Heaven has been a great resource for me. Quick, friendly and unlike some retAAilers they stand behind what they sale. http://www.partsheaven.com/pages/used_parts.html
