center console gauges
Im plannin on makeing a centerconsole from that french website and wanted to know what the 3 gauges that originally came in it. I THINK (a rare occasion for me) that they were volt's oil temp, and a clock. Any one know where i can get replacements? or aftermarket? They dont need to be stock size, but id ike to keep them at least looking similar to stock.

You are right. The three gauges were voltmeter, oil temp and clock. I am sure Pelican sells them. You can also find them on Ebay. I am sure you could probably find them on the Parts for sale board here at Pelican. Check under the carpet along the center tunnel to see if your '73 has the wires for the gauges in the harness. If they are there you will find wire connectors inside plastic covers. My '73 1.7 had the wires.

you might consider more popular gauges than the stock ones, such as an oil pressure, head temperature, and air/fuel mixture among others. guess it depends on if you want stock or function. there are opinions that the temp gauge and the voltmeters are "ballpark"/innaccurate, and "we don't need no stinkin' clock".

I agree with jamcleod.. Unless you are going for a stock restore, put guages in that you will use. I have an oil pressure guage instead of a clock. Hell, I have a clock in my radio so who needs the dial...

Be advised that VDO no longer makes them in the original size. They are smaller and need either a reducer ring or a new back pad.
Personally, what I have done..... most stereos have a digital clock....go with something else in the center. I would also sugeest ones that have numbers on them. Replace the sender unit for the oil temp as well. What "I" would do is, use a head temp, 02 sensor and volt meter in the center console and get a oil temp gauge that is in the large gas gauge on the dash.

Well, since "boogerboy" is talking about making a console from scratch, he can put in any size gauges he likes! Actually, you might consider larger ones than the standard 2" ones we carry, as they'll be more readable. I used a hole saw to cut holes in my new face panel for the aftermarket gauges I am using.
