Rain Tray?

Yeah, Do I really have to have one?
Anyone toss theirs and get along fine without it?
I dont have one now, but it seems like it should be there, or I'll wish I had it when it rains or snows REALLY bad one day soon.
I guess it would help keep the engine cleaner if nothing else.

I took mine out of my car. But I live in SoCal, and it doesn't rain here. Even when it rains, it's not rain, it's a drizzle.

I took mine off to dissipate heat from the engine compartment. In Washington State though, I'd not only leave it on, I'd make sure your drain spouts are in good working order, and all your engine compartment related seals are in good order.

The 914 engine compartment is known for it's rust, and the injection/ignition systems can be very vulnerable to moisture as well.

I take mine out in the summer, put it back in over the winter. "Winter", in the SF Bay Area, meaning "the time of year when it actually does rain."

IMO Porsche would not have invested engineering resources to develope a needless gadge just to add cost to production. doesnt it rain alot in WA?

Alot..? How much is alot?
I'd guess it will rain enough to soak my engine. But I live in central washington, and it basically doesnt rain here in the summer or about 8 months out of the year.
Just a bit in spring, and a little more in the fall. I'm going to try and park the car for most of the winter, and then its mostly snow anyways. But I found one for $20 so I guess it wont kill me to get it.

The Copper Metallic 914 with the 2.0 Fuchs in this thread was my car.

Parting Out 73 2.0

I sold it to Steve. It came from Washington state. You can read about it's rust damage on page 3 of the thread. A great looking 914 with rust problems can turn ugly quick.

Let us know what you do.

After converting to a six, I was unable to keep my rain tray. If after the debate, you decide you want to install one on your car, I have one that I'd be happy to sell you for a reasonable price.

Let me know if you want it.
