Rear Caliper Seal

I am in the process of rebuilding my rear brake calipers. I noticed the square “O” ring seal for the outer adjustment screw was not included in the rebuild kit. Is there a replacement for this?

Gary, I bought a rebuild kit from pelican and the kit included a round oring to put in the inner adjuster and a small round one for the outer adjuster. I think pelican pieces these kits together from other kits to get a complete kit. There is a tech article on how to do this rebuild. I may get beat up for this but I shortcut the rebuild by not pulling the cap off of the e-brake lever on one side. One the other side the cap fell out and when I pulled it apart completely and found I could get away with out pulling the other on apart. Hope this helps. Good luck Mark. PM me with any questions.

I ordered rebuild kits form pelican also. These are complete kits except for the dust boot retainer (which too big) must be trimmed and the adjusting screw O-ring is wrong. This O-ring is too small in cross section and is circular instead of square. I am tempted to remove the square seal and measure the seal groove on the screw. (I have a lot of seal supplier contacts, through work, that will go out of their way to help me). But I’m concerned that if I damage the seal and my resources can’t find a match, I’ll have a worthless caliper!

Does anyone have a spare screw available that can be measured? If so I need the seal groove I.D. and the groove width measured.

Gary, My oring was square on my 1972 when I removed it. I put the circular one back in (being careful) and put all the pieces back together. No more leak. Maybe your car has the bigger adjuster 1973 on. I don't know if the bore is larger in the adjuster area for the oring. Sorry I don't have the answer. Maybe Pelican has a larger oring. Thank You Mark.

Could be the original seal was circular in section. Seals will swell some what in contact with hydraulic fluid. After 30 years of sitting in the calipar maybe it took the shape of the groove! But the O-ring in the kit is still too small in cross section. It could roll and get damaged when the screw is installed in the calipar.
