1st gear

Was able to drive my car for the first time today (drove it around the yard ). 1st gear is so hard to find, I have to rally push the shifter into my leg and bang it down and hope its there, usually its in 3rd. could it just be the clutch cable need tighting? It sometime grinds into rev.

You need to adjust your shifter AFTER replacing any worn bushings; read the article "914 Shifting Improvements" as a start.

Afterwards, adjust the clutch to proper specs using the article "Replacing and Adjusting the 914 Clutch".
