Muffler(s) recommendations?

Fellas:
Well, it looks like I will need a new muffler and also will need to add a cat to my 76 914.
Some of the mufflers I'm seeing on the net or 914s don't look like they'd fit my car.
Can you guys tell me what you think of your mufflers and where did you buy it and
how much did it cost?
I am assuming I will need to add a cat to my car in order to pass emissions here in WI.
Any thoughts or comments are appreciated.

Thanks!
Andy...

It is possible to get a '76 2.0 to pass emissions test w/o a cat. May require adj the valves a little loose.

Depends on the exact standards and tests used. For instance, if they have a "visual check" you're hosed without the cat.

The only cat-equipped system I know of for a 914-4 is the original 75-76 exhaust. The header pipes are separate from the heat exchangers, which feed into a primary muffler that in turn goes to the cat and then to the secondary muffler. (I think I've got that order correct there!) Not a cheap setup to buy if you've got the earlier-style setup on it. If so, then I suggest trying to pass with what you have.

what if you just got a cat off another car and welded the guts onto the outside of the tubing somewhere where it'd fit and then doing the valves? I've got some friends that gutted their cats on different cars, if they didn't just cut them completely off.

Were not the only cat equipped cars California cars?

My 49 state 75 never had a cat.

i was thinking along the same lines of duck ryder. I also though the ca models were the only ones with cats.

Thanks fellas....
Isn't the PP $37 for the bypass pipe, not the cat?
I am planning on buying the Bursh from PP, but not sure where to get the correct cat from.

muffler

Steve:
I measured 26" from center to center.
Does your muffler match this?
If it does and you tell me it's in good condition,
I'll take it for $150. Have any idea what shipping would be to 53146? (WI)

I suggest checking with your local DOT/DEQ/whomever is in charge of smog inspections. Most 75-76 914s did not have catalysts, and I wouldn't think that one would be needed in WI.
