912E exhaust options
Hi guys:
I'm looking to your collective wisdom for my options. I have the flat four 2.0 in my car, a la the 914. My heat exchangers are shot and I've got an old Bursch muffler, so I'm ready to make some adjustments. However, the options out there for 912E owners are minimal. What type of performance/sport exhausts have you seen on a 912E? Custom? Ideas? Thanks very much in advance for any ideas! |

Well since you live in PA, you could probably get away with not being smog legal. If not, any intake/exhaust mod could cause you problems.
Cheap upgrades would be a header, if you don't mind not having heat, Kerry Hunter makes a nice one. The next best thing is finding a new set of heat exchangers and getting a Bursch muffler/extractor system. If the flange on your current heat exchangers has three bolts each, instead of two, you have the 75-76 style heat exchangers. I have not been able to find Stainless Steel replacements for that type. S/s comes only in the two bolt 2.0 (73-74) and the 1.7/1.8. They should all fit your motor, but the Bursch muffler is specific to the year that it bolts to, and is not interchangeable without welding and cutting....the 75-76 also has a cat pipe.... Good Luck.... |

I remember seeing a 912E exhaust in the "glossy catalog" of one of Pelican's competitors. I don't remember any of the details--headers or heat exchangers, stainless or mild steel, etc.--but I do remember that it was an exhaust for the 912E.
I don't see any 912 exhaust in the on-line catalog here, but that doesn't mean that Pelican can't get it for you. I suggest giving Tom, Brian, or Darren a call. 888/280-7799. Good luck! --DD |
