I think I should send him a kind reminder that if he doesn't know what the **** it is, don't try to sell it to those who do.

I think he should have advertised it as "retracting seat cushions". In case of frontal hit and the cushion slides out, the coiled cords act as a retract mechanism so as to not place your bare a$$ on the fiberglass shell which would result in a rash.

well, there were "no" heated seats back in the 70's... we were tougher back then ... certainly no 914 heated seats.... what those cords are, are the electrical connections for the seat belt interlock which prevented the cars from being started unless the seat belts (if someone was sitting in the seat) were buckled. it was one of "big brother's" attempts to save us from ourselves. so, the seller is unaware, AGAIN, about the details of the item he/she is selling.

This was an ebay ad from a while ago.

The seller mistakenly thinks the wires coming out of the seat cushions are for a seat heater.

They are in fact the electrical connection for the seat belt warning light sensor. When you sit on the pad, it triggers the seat belt warning light and buzzer, it goes out once you buckle the seat belt.

Porsche Crest

For a few years in the early 70's Uncle Sam wanted to save our hides. So in those years there was an interlock system with the ignition. If the belt was not buckled , the car would not start!

Okay. Now that I get it, it's pretty funny. I thought it was an aftermarket idea, like something you would buy out of JC Whitney and it was applied to the 914 seat cushions.
