450 horses Why?

450 horses in the porsche cayanne turbo according to a new commercial. Seems like suv overkill.

It performs like a Boxster S, but weighs nearly 5200 lbs. It needs the horses to keep the power/weight ratio adequate.

I heard a suggestion that the Cayanne is a test platform for Porsches new V8 race motor.

Seems a reasonably sound accusation.

I had the pleasure of "attempting" to run with Cayanne turbo. Pulled up next to him on the 5 in my 914 and gave him the "look". I got SMOKED! We were going about 70mph when he hit it. Squatted down and left me. The only other SUV that made me envious like that was the Typhoon I once raced going to Vegas. Now that would be an interesting match, a Typhoon and a Cayanne.

I watched in awe as a Cayenne turbo kicked butt at an AX at Irwindale speedway a couple months ago. There were plenty of fast cars there that day and he ended up in the top 5 fastest times of the day. nuff said.

It's rather remarkable isn't it? For reasons that escape me, it bothers some of the 911 owners that the Cayenne can perform as it does. If I could have but one it would be one of the 996's (after the CGT, of course--mid engine like the 914), but one has to be in awe of an SUV that performs as the Cayenne S does.

5200lbs!! Holy ***** Batman.......thats a boat. A very expensive high performance boat, but a boat none the less. My '75 1/2 ton Ford pickup with a 351 Cleveland only weighs about 5K.

I watched a Cayenne Turbo race a Vette on Sunset the other night, and it was pretty even. I don't really even know what to say except awesome. Finally the soccer dad's of America can be proud of their kiddie-wagons.

That's a little heavy for only one. Probably closer to 3300 pounds for the five series sedan.
