Angry 75 1.8 Won't Start

After putting in many hours of labor, I fired my baby right up. We drove around all day, running errands. Now, lo and behold, no start.

This is what I've checked so far:

I have spark. I have fuel (fuel came spurting right out of those lines when I turned the fuel pump on).

What I don't have are functions injectors. I attached one of those gizmos that light up if there's power (sorry, I don't know the name) to the fuel injector plug (probably not the way it's supposed to be referred to), and the gizmo didn't light up.

I've checked to make sure that the brain connections were good and tight.

Anybody have any idea why my injectors aren't injecting?

And sorry about the less than technical terms -- I'm new at this mechanic stuff!

Check the white wire that plugs onto the coil's (-) terminal. That tells the FI when to inject fuel. If it's not plugged in, the injectors will not open.

The light is often called a "noid light".

in each injector circuit is a resistor. i'd describe it as "after" the resistor thinking that the current goes from the brain to the injector then towards ground and the resistor is "between" the resistor and ground. you might check for continuity from the injector to ground, maybe a connection failed and that is interupting the current flow preventing the injector from "firing". just a WAG, but if you have spark and fuel ....

check the double relay, dont be afriad to open it and push on the relays, one should turn the fuel pump on, the other should send power to the brain and injectors. remember that the brain switches ground, this relay gets it power from the coil.

so push the proper relay and try to start it and while in there take a piece of 400 grit sand paper and pull it between the contacts when you push on em, mine once would not run because a piece of grit got in there

the relay is really simple

Other way 'round. The double relay supplies power to the injectors by way of the resistors. The ECU provides the ground or removes it to open and close the injectors.

But yeah, that's a worthwhile thing to check, as is the double relay.

Thanks for the suggestions. Where's the double relay located?

dave is correct but i was describing "conventional current" vs electron flow

since you have fuel pressure (you stated gas comes out of hoses when you turn on the ignition), i ruled out the double relay as i think it controls the fuel pump and since you have gas, the double relay is ok. i should know this as i also have a 1.8.

looks like the only sure thing i can tell you is the double relay is the ~3x3x1" black "box" attached to the battery support. also, just behind is the resistor pack, probably has a silver colored cover with 4 cylinders (the resistors) inside. pretty much hidden under the battery and tray

ps: i meant that the resistor is between the injector and ground my bad

Okay, I've checked to make sure the wire's plugged into the coil's - terminal. Still no start.

Any other suggestions? I guess it's time to have it towed to my local 914 expert...sounds like $$$$ to me.

broken wire in the wiring harness (it's 30 yr old)
i've heard ECU's rarely go bad
bad ground connections (3 pronged connector at top rear of case)
some connection from dizzy to tell when to fire injectors

check the double relay oh did i say check it

you can get fuel pressure with a bad relay remember the l jet provides power to the fuel pump when the started is engaged, so fuel pressure does not indicate a good relay !
