Does anyone produce the front pedal cluster lateral reinforcement metal? I need to weld a new on. Or is this going to need to be fabricated or taken from a donor?

We carry RD's products.

You may wind up having to order a left-side floor pan or front half floor pan in order to get that part, though. It might be cheaper to make it yourself or get it from a donor car. Just make sure any used parts you get are in decent shape.

And while you're in there, you might consider reinforcing the area a bit to keep it from flexing when you stand on the brake pedal. Should help firm up the feel.

Reinforcing could be as simple as putting a second layer of metal in where the master cylinder bolts on. Or adding a brace from the back side of the master cylinder to the crossmember, as they showed in Grassroots Motorsports a few months back.

The bracing we did worked very well. Honestly, Dick Shine up in Massachusetts (you know, soon to be home of the 2004 Superbowl Champions) showed me this trick.

Yes, we had some in (I believe it was) the December issue. You can order it online.

All this time I thought this forum was a place to share information and ideas. I didn't realise it was a marketing tool. I was considering buying the magazine, but after that, I probably won't. Anyone else, willing to share information and ideas, have details of this reinforcement?

Vaughan, this forum is both...

A bracket was welded onto the suspension crossmember, and I think a weld-nut was attached to the bracket. A threaded rod or set-screw was threaded through, with a jam nut threaded onto that to secure it in place. The end of the set-screw pushed on the end of the master cylinder.

The pics are not on the GRM website that I have seen, but they are in the magazine.

Vaughn, What do you do for a living? I publish technical car magazines. I spend my company's money and send myelf and my staff around the country to consult with experts to learn how to best restore and modify cars. Then we write about the cars in the magazines and then sell them. Yes, I am a dirty capitalist. We do give a lot of the story away for free on our website, but not all of it.
By the way, I have seen several places on this site where both our words and pictures have been copied and placed on the site. Technically this is stealing. It is also good promotion for us and the owners of this site are good friends of mine, so it's okay, but there are copyright laws in this country so be careful what you guys do in the innocent pursuit of your hobby.
Vaughn... This is your hobby. This is my hobby too, but it also how I plan to put my kids through college. Please cut me some slack.

So this has become an indictment of my lifestyle? What I do for a living is defend your right to make a living doing anything you wish. I wear the uniform everyday as member of the armed forces. I wasn't asking for illegal copyrighted pictures from your beloved magazine. I was asking individual hobbyists for information to help support my hobby, not trying to take a meal off your kids' table. I just felt your answer was a baseless self-promotion. So cut me some slack!

Anyway back on subject, is this reinforcement even necessary on a street car?

Necessary? Probably not. Nice? Sounds like it is. On at least some cars, some of the "sponge" in the brake pedal may be from flexing of the floor pan where the master cylinder bolts on.

Well this is going well. Tell you what, let's go at this a little differently. Vaughn, I am sorry to offend you. I'll ask my web guy to post the picture of the pedal assembly reinforcement this morning on the Grassroots Motorsports website under project car updates.

Tym,

I wasn't offended in the least; my skin is a little thicker than that. I apologize if I offended you. I don't care about your picture. I'm not sure if it will help or not. I wasn’t looking for a sales pitch; all I was looking for is the opinion and insight of my fellow hobbyist on how this mod was executed and if it really helped all that much.
