Why do all of the four-cylinder 914s use the same camshaft?

There are at least three distinctly different stock type 4 engine cams. These cams are identified by casting markings.

Though some are different, D-Jet Cams on 1.7 and 2.0's were mild since the MPS does not pulses from a big cam.

The cams are ID by a bump on the casting. I will see if I have a photo to post. Steve
