Why do all of the four-cylinder 914s use the same camshaft?
 
You'd think that each of the different engine designs would need its own unique cam ...

There are at least three distinctly different stock type 4 engine cams. These cams are identified by casting markings.
Check out "Type 4 Secrets" for the cam info.

Though some are different, D-Jet Cams on 1.7 and 2.0's were mild since the MPS does not pulses from a big cam.

The cams are ID by a bump on the casting. I will see if I have a photo to post. Steve
