tierods went out ... got a problem
the bearing right behind the horn seems to be going out i can hear it and feel it just a little bit ..... so anyone know how to replace the bearing? oh and i'm getting turbo tie rods...

The bearing will come out when you pull the seal that holds it in the back. Ofcourse you have to remove the hub. There is a race that is recesed into the hub and is a ***** to remove, and needs to be replaced with the bearing. It comes with it. You will need to heat the hub, and cool the race for best results.

There are special tools available to help remove the race and another to install the race. It is possible to grind down the outer surface of an old race and use it as an 'installation' tool

I was able to follow the Haynes manual and replace the front wheel bearings. It's a thoroughly messy job, but quite doable.
I used a large socket to remove the grease seal. There are notches in the flange that the bearing race sits in, and you can use a punch in those notches to tap the race out. One tap here, one over there, one over there, one back here... Comes out slowly, but comes out. You can probably set up some fittings in a press if you have one and do the job much more quickly... I used a very large socket as a mandrel to tap the new race in. I got a lot of use out of my mallet that day... ![]() Don't forget to pack grease into the bearings, nor to adjust the play in thems when you're done with the installation. They will also loosen up after a hundred miles or so, particularly if you use them hard (e.g., autocross) and will need to be re-adjusted. Check them for play periodically for a while after the installation by wiggling the top of the tire in and out. A little "click" feel is good; a "clunk" feel means the bearing pre-load needs to be tightened. --DD

horn bearing ... looks like a muffler bearing only tapered like a kanibler pin.

Wheel bearings can be removed, cleaned inspected arepacked and reused. Things to look for include metal filings, bent or misshaped cages, blueing of the rollers, races or axle. When installing bearings tighten the axel nust till the bearing starts to bind. Turn the rotor assemblywhile tightening the axel nut. You will feel a slight binding at some point. I will then push it just slightly tighter adn then back off feeling for the point in which the rotor spins free.

I wasn't sure about "horn bearing", but then when Mike started talking about (front) wheel bearings, I went with it...
![]() Factory spec on the front bearings is to tighten them until the washer behind the clamp nut can just be moved with a screwdriver. No, I'm not kidding! --DD
