Starting Help ?
My 914 is having starting problems. First I thought it was the ignition switch because when I jilted the key around when trying to start it. It would fire right up after 5 second or so after a hum/buzz So I just finished replacing the ignition switch and now when the key is in the start position there is a hum/buzz for a second or two and then nothing for (x) amount of time. Then I thought there might be a problem with electrical system under the seat. ( As stated in the pelican parts techarticles ) So I took the seat out and there is two yellow/white wires from the floorboard to two black wires to the seat belt. And one brown and one yellow from the floor board to the seat wires brown and black. Which ones do I cut to buy pass the system because it is not clearly stated in the pelican parts techarticles? If it’s not the seat problem what else could it be? And its not battery because its new.

When ever it starts to crank over it starts right up. Where is the Solenoid? I haven’t checked it yet.

Look for a pair of fat yellow wires. One may have a red stripe. Check them for +12V when the key is on "start".
Go through the "Starter System Troubleshooting" article and check the stuff recommended there. That ought to get you to the source of the problem. --DD

sounds like your "starter" hum/buzz is correct for a 2.0L d-jet. that's the fuel pump building up pressure then cutting off.

It seams to start up well after the key is in the start position for about 5 seconds. Is this normal for a 914? ( It’s my first 914 )

If you mean that the starter doesn't even start cranking for ~5 seconds after you turn the key all the way, this is not normal at all.
If you mean that it starts after about 5 seconds worth of cranking, then I'd say that's not awful. Particularly in the chilly weather we've been having lately. --DD
