Engine Bogging
I everyone-
I was reading the post below regarding lightening the flywheel and how bad bogging the motor is. I live in Colorado and primarily drive my 914 on nice days up in the mountains. However, once in a while I will take it to the office. I am afraid that in traffic I may be bogging the motor as I don't always want to fight with the shifting. Should I stay above a certain rpm when under load? Sorry for trivial question. -Scott S |

I drive to work in Houston, lots of bumper to bumper traffic, not as bad as LA though! The key is not to floor the accelerator while at low speeds in high gears. If you are just putting along in second or third and don't hammer it when the engine is like at 1800 rpm or so every time the guy in front of you moves forward, you will be fine, just watch the temp gauge as the potential for heat related damage is there if you run under load at low RPM, (the higher the RPM the more cooling the engine gets). Its probably not a problem in Alaska but here in Houston it gets quite hot! My oil cooler helps a lot; if you don't have one it's a great investment especially if you drive in traffic a lot and want to listen to your radio, not the engine reving up and down)
