which exhaust?
alright. i have a 1974 1.8 and im looking at getting a new muffler. the car currently has the pace setter 4 tip "monza" exhaust. my main problem is that the exhaust is just too loud. its louder than my camaro with a borla exhaust on it.
![]() my question is this: Which muffler should i go for between the Bursch and the Sebring exhausts? What do they sound like and how loud are they? I want something thats going to have a nice throaty sound like the pace setter, but not so damn loud!

I've heard from this board that the Triad's are the way to go. Unfortunately for me they don't make them for a 75 1.8l. I'd have to change out my HE for earlier style to get one.

Stock has a nice sound. Relatively mellow.
I've only heard the Triad once, and it was quite loud. It may have been one of their louder mufflers, though. Bursch, to my ear, has a nicer note than the Sebring. It seems to rust out slower than the Sebring as well. (Which does not mean it rusts slowly, though!!) A bit loud, but not miserable. --DD

I've heard the Triad and have the Bursch (on my 2.0L) and the Bursch is a bit noisy but not bad. The Triad has a very nice tone and I don't think it's much louder than the Bursch if any. Ask jmuriz, he has the Triad.

unfortunately for you the triad will only work on the earlier 2.0 h.e.'s. they are not that much louder than the bursch and have a richer tone. i have a single tip triad on my silver car. thermal barrier coated.

Yep, I have a triad, but it's on a 2.0 w/ stainless HE's. dB wise it's about the same as my old Bursch but is MUCH less raspy. It must be the 4-2-1-2 setup of the Triad but it's really a deep sound. Sounds great when on the gas and at idle. Best of luck. You could also do a dual out mod to a stock on, that might be fun as well.

That last, the dual out on the stock muffler, is loud. As in, "I got hassled by the cops" loud. (They didn't write me a ticket, but they did give me s**t about it.)

What's Triad's web site URL? I have only been able to find an old link http://www.olywa.net/triad/products/products.htm .
