What to do?

I am unsure as to what I should do with the 914/6 that I purchased for a good price last week, and I am seeking the wisdom and knowledge of the members of this forum. I have a couple different options available to me. The first is to keep it and restore it, which I would love to do, but do not have the time nor the resources ($$$). The second option that I can see is to sell it as is and make a decent profit. The third choice is to take the parts that I need, part out the rest, and sell the body. Finally the last option is to take what I need, part out the rest, and send the body to the crusher (which I would hate to do).

Of these four options I think I am leaning more towards option three, take what I need (suspension, sway bars, oil tank, oil cooler, fuel cell and a few little things), and then sell the body/parts. I know I may hate myself for letting a real six go, but I just don't have the time, money, or space to keep it and restore it.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Matt

Matt,

what ever you decide to do with it... I might be interested in purchasing... (of course I'd rather buy it with a few of the -6 parts to help in putting it back on the road)...

but either way I'm interested.
I'm in longmont..
would it be possible to look at it with you?
I know you might not be ready to do anything with it at this minute, but I'd love to just see it, partly because it would be educational for me)

Let me know your thoughts..
if you want to email direct, I'll send you a phone number...

thanks for your time

The whole car intact is worth more than if you strip a few key parts off and then sell em.
Either restore the car or try selling it on the 914club.com classifieds for a tidy profit. Then buy the parts you need with the money and you still will be ahead on the deal.

How rusty is it? That determines the price.

I would rather somebody restored it, and it is worth more with most of the parts still on it. I am just having a hard time looking at what those 3.5 in. bilstiens with vented rotors with S calipers, rear vented rotors (unknown caliper, maybe you guys could help), and front and rear sway bar would do for my car. I know that if I where to purchase all of the suspension seperately I know that I would be looking at putting out a lot of cash. Not to mention the oil tank and oil cooler. So far the rust is minimal. I have checked the drainage areas in the engine compartment, under the rocker panels, and front and rear trunks. The main area of concern that I can see is the floorpan, as it has been outside for at least 1.5 years. Everything that is rusty is only slight surface rust.[

I would guess that the rear brakes are ~68-73 911 rear brakes. But it is only a guess. I do not see a venting clearance adjuster, so they are not 914-4 or 914-6 rear brakes. They don't quite look like 914-4 front brakes...

I actually think you'd make more money by parting it and selling the shell. It will take a lot longer (e.g., you'll have to keep it sitting around until you find someone who wants just that part) but I think you'll make a bit more overall that way.

However, I would really like to see you sell it intact to someone who restores it and goes vintage racing in it!!

See if you can find out what venues it raced in--talk to the PO, and see how much you can find out about its history and other POs that it had. If it turns out to be one of the more famous racers, then it is definitely worth more intact than it is in pieces.

MLedesma,

I have been planning to build a 914-6 with the spare parts that I have and expand a little bit with 911S parts to make a 914-6S as the factory should have. (Like the factory should do with the Boxster and 996 motors!)

Your find fits my needs perfectly. My email address is nedlundsgaard@att.net. I've also sent you a PM.

Fin
