901 tranny

Can anyone tell me where the number is found on a 901 tranny, which by the way came out of a 69 911, that would tell me whether I have a 4 speed or 5 speed. I found the case number 901301101 2R. Where can I find the other number and what does it mean. Thanks, Ian

The number on mine is found stamped into the center seam of the case, on the under side.

As far as I know, aren't all the 901 trans 5 speed?

Nope. Some were four-speeds. Some of the 912s came with those. I don't know if there were any on the 911s or not--there weren't on 914s. All 914 trannies were 5-speed, except for the very very very rare "Sportomatic". Those were either 3 or 4 speed, I forget which.
