I hit something with my little Honda 90 Dirtike copy that put a quarter sized (L shaped) hole in the head. It is on the other side of the plug and exhaust and is not leaking oil. I also don't feel any air blowing in or out when running. It looks like I got lucky and it is just a little chamber that the pushrod tube runs through and just evens out that side of the engine for visual and cooling purposes.
What do you think I should do to keep the hole from spreading? Don't worry? Metal Duct tape? JB weld? or pull the head and weld? The Chinese copys have hit the U.S. and these things are cheap dirtbike fun. $400 for the 50cc - $700 for the 90cc at your FLAPS. TIA - Jay |

I just ordered up some por-15 epoxy putty. anyone ever use this stuff. The last time I used JB weld, it was more like toothpaste, kinda hard to cover a bigger gap. I'm thinking something more like silly putty.

If you drill a hole on the outside edge of the crack, it will stop from getting larger. JB weld doesn't like that much heat..
Try some "sonic weld" from NAPA. I patched a head up on a Type I Turbo engine that blew a hole through the exhaust port. It lasted for 3 months with 16 PSI of boost! JB weld is good stuff. I had a 59 carrera GT in the shop with a 547 engine. I repaired an oil leak with the stuff that would have cost 10K to repair if the case needed splitting.... Thats a 75,000.00 engine with JB weld on it!

I have heard of people repairing cases, but the head gets hotter, right? I guess the worst that could happen is that the patch would fall off. I will try to drill the corner, good idea.
What do the surface temps on a 914 head reach? |
