On the web, no one place, but Dr. Johnson's "restorers guide to authenticity" has the pix you want.
For the record: Mahle, Pedrinni, Fuch, made 5.5" aluminium wheels, the Fuch and Mahle were forged the Pedrinnies cast. I beleive the Mahles are the rarest (the 5 lug Mahles are some of the lightest factory wheels ever, I think). There were two steel wheels with hub cabs, one 4.5" one 5.5" I know they are the same bolt pattern as VW but I've been told that the offset is different, in other words there is a 914 specific PN. Also there is a steel 5.5" wheel without a hub cap. Aftermarket wheels include Rivera, A.T.S. (both 5-lug. The ATS are my personal fav), Empi (something like 10-12 spokes), and some American racing rims. With the cheesy JC Whitney adaptors you can put any GM or Ford bolt pattern on the car, and of coarse if the wheels have a five lug conversion there are many more possibilities. Take a look at the 914 ads from back in the day. Either on this web site or the 914 club. |

Yup to what Brian said!
The five-bolt Mahle "gas burner" wheels were cast aluminum, which is why they are the lightest wheels ever put on a street Porsche by the factory. Hmmm... Lawrence Bonkoski used to have a collection of wheel photos on his Rennlist website, but the site only loads a background for me. http://members.rennlist.com/lawrence . Perhaps it'll work better for you? --DD |
