Starter needed in San Diego or Chula Vista on Sunday 5/2
The starter on Julia's 914 died this evening and it is her daily driver. Would anyone have a starter in the San Diego or Chula Vista area that I could buy or borrow until I get another one. Kind of hard to get one on Sunday as most shops are closed... My number is 619-691-8640, Thanks

Hi John;
What part of the starter is fried? I have a starter with no solenoid that you could certainly use. With enough calling around, I would think a solenoid could be found on a Sunday. A NAPA/Kragen/Autozone somewhere in the county would have one. A second thought would be to try and hit Sean Malloy up. I would guess he's got one he could spare for a few days with a little pretty please (and you have to say something nice about his V8 car.) It's a little late to call you now, but give me a buzz in the am 619-287-6425. Maybe we can get something going for you (not willing to pull the one out of the race car, eh?) H

Well, I am not in San Diego but I am just north of you and I have at least 3 or 4 starters here you could have. Give me a call at 714-318-3889.
Scott

Thanks for the info on the starters, but I got it fixed. The starter was dead as can be but this morning when I got under the car (in the light) I noted there were only two wires going to the starter and nornally there are three??!! Well the ones for the backup light switch were also missing and a search revealed that they had been torn loose from the harness under the air filter. I think one of the b/u wires came loose and caught on the axle and pulled them all off since they were all wire-tied together. I replaced the wire from the ignition switch connection and all works well again??!! That is one of the weirder things I have had happen to a 914...... Thanks for the help guys but I am glad I don't have to pull the starter after all....
