Do any of you guys run updated wheels?
I am wondering if boxter 16x6’s (fronts) would work? Are 7” too big? ![]() I just put a set on my 944 and think I want to go with 7” all around. That means aquiring another set and being left with 4 - 6" wheels. Would be nice to know where they will go. Mark Oh yeh, heres a pic from Grassrooots 2004 Challenge ![]()

Boxster wheels have been done a number of times. You need some pretty serious spacers, as the newer wheels have way too much backspacing. I would assume you needed them for your wasserpumper as well, because the 944 wheels are not so bad a fit onto a 914.
7s are pushing it for stock fenders, no matter what the backspacing or diameter. 6es are a more-certain bet, as long as you can get the spacing worked out. 205-width tires max, most likely. --DD

Mark, I've got those same rims off a 1999 Boxster that I will be putting on my 914 over the next month (assuming I get the car back from the body shop this week). I talked to a few people who put them on their 914's...fronts require a spacer to bring it out (6" rim) and the rears were fine (7" rim). Using floor jacks and a "loose" mount on my "4 lugs" (tighten 1 lug..line up well..and gently lowering it with jacks supporting most of the weight) the appeared to fit well.
I'll post my progress with pics when I get the car back. Jim

That pretty much answers the question. I was hoping that you guys would run 6's all around and want to trade the 7's out. I would really like 7's all around although the 6' fronts make-up for the lack of power steering nicely.
The 44's need about 2" spacers in back (after removing the stock 3/4 plate) with 3/4 in front to bring them out to the wells. They look ok without but I like the full look. Ok for your trouble....here's another Grassroots pic. ![]() Yeh, its sort of a 944 (corvette hood and 350 truck engine)

TCM,
After I switch my rear end to 5-lug (over the next month) I'll fit the 7" and see how they actually fit with a full weight load (the current tires on them I know are too big as it has the boxster 225's mounted (my front 6" have 205's)). If they are too wide (I'll also try with 205's mounted) I may consider a swap for a 6" depending on their condition. What kind of tires are you running on the 6" rims..On my 7" rims I have Michelin Pilot 225's. Not sure on your timing...but I'm about a month out to know for sure if the 7" will work for sure or not. Jim

That sounds perfect Jim. It will be at least a month before I can aquire my spacers.
The condition of the rims is one perfect the other has some minor rash. I will probably have that fixed by then though. The tires are yoko 205's z-rated at approx 3/4 tread. Really good shape. My 7" have 215's I think and I have been wanting to run 225's so yours would definately work for me. Just let me know how it goes. Mark
