Blower housing alteration
Does anyone remember the post where the blower housing alteration is done to imporve cooling? I recall two air outlets were blocked to imporve flow.

i know ury did that mod to his housing but jake says not to do it.
the cooling actually suffers from the increased flow velocity, or something like that. anyway, the testing showed it was better not to block them off. dr |

The post you're talking about was over on the 914club board. I think URY did it as much to save weight as anything else... He machined off the two lower outlets and filled the holes left in the shroud with fiberglass, I believe.
I didn't catch the post where Jake said it made the cooling worse. That's not good, in that case!! He's got the test equipment and the experience; I would believe him! --DD

mine has been running wide open in my bus and 914 (neither have heater boxes) since the engines were built... bus some instruments and you can also see the effects of them being open and closed..
The vanagon shroud did not have them, and its internals are entirely different. The plenum space is almost 1500ccs less than a standard 914/bus blower housing!
