Can't get in

Does anybody know a way to get into a 914 when the doors will not open? The doors are not locked but the door handles will not work.

Try taking the screws out of the covers for the inside door latches....too long screws keeps the door from opening...

Do we have another car theif on hand?

Okay, seriously Im guessing you can't get to the screws for the inside door latch, or the door would be open. Maybe I dont understand what mikez is saying either. At any rate I would try pulling down on the windows and see if the window will crank down (its a long shot but these are old cars). Next I would consider trying to bend the window out enough to try the inside door latch. If that failed, knowing me I'd kick the car until something broke, then have to fix that too and then Id think that that was silly of me. At this point I would call my insurance company, and get glass coverage. Then I would play baseball with my wife and accedently throw the ball through the window of the car. Problem solved. Fair warning, Im not sure about the legality of the baseball idea. Good luck

well bret
there is no real easy way to get in it if the door handles are not working
sounds like the plastic part that slides when you pull the handel is broke both my doors did this on my car this part pushes on the latch and makes the door open
unless you can get the window down or get the top off the only way is to get inside the car and take the door panel off and reach in side and open it you can busted the vent window this is a cheep window and easy to fix

good luck

Ok,
I'll ask the stupid question. How did this situation occur?.. BOTH door handles are broken? that'd be one of the things that would be pretty high on my priority of things to fix. Was the car sitting for that long and the mechanism stopped working?..

sorry, just a little boggled..

well, if the car HAS been sitting, or if the back window needs re-sealing anyways, i'd just push the rear glass in, and crawl in through the opening..

good luck..

Jeff

Sure, Jeff. You could just climb in, but what about the rest of us? That window is awful small....

well.. i'm sure he can find someone who's similar in stature.. being short and thin does have its advantages sometime.

now to fix my oil leak.. at least i know where it's coming from, and it's not too hard of a fix..

When I went to look at the 75 I now own I had to break in to look at it. If it weren't for the fact I knew the owner (and he had the title) I'd think twice. I used a piece of coat hanger to wind the window down. I put the wire throught the seal between the vent window and the A-Pillar. In my case the seal was shot and I planned on replacing it anyway, the PO didn't care if I torn it up either because he needed to get into the car. As it turned out I was able to wind the window down without crewing up the seal.
