A/C Hose routing in Passanger Long.

Anyone have a photo of the A/C hoses routed through the passanger side long. then into the wheel well?

I am not sure how it transitions into the wheel well. There doesn't seem to be room between the rocker panel and the long. to fit the A/C hoses.

I am looking at using the heater ducting but so far it hasn't worked out.

Cheers

My 74 2.0 has full A/C, I am about to start the restoration on it and will be taking the rocker covers off tonight or tomorrow. I can take a couple of pictures then. If memeory serves me right some of the braces are removed on the longitudical, or you have to remove the material in the middle of the brace. My las car had air to, let me see if I can find a picture of it.

Thanks...I am mostly concerned with getting the hose into and out of the rocker area. Once I get that figured out I should be good-to-go.

Cheers and thanks in advance

There are several photos in the factory A/C manual.

That is the area I was unsure of drilling into, the boxed in section. It looks like the dealers were instructed to drill 4 holes into the boxed section.

My Wife's 74 1.8 had a DPD AC system on it when she got it. It always was marginal with the stock compressor and R12. When I restored it, I put in all new hoses, new O-rings, a new dryer, and a rotary compressor running R134a. Now on a 100 degree Texas summer day, it will turn you into a popsicle. If you are going to do this I suggest the rotary compressor conversion kit for a type IV available from ICEAC. www.iceac.com It really fits and works great.

Thanks Clay.

I do have a Sanden 508 compressor and bracket and will be replacing all hoses with "Barrier" type hose and new o-rings on the fittings. I also replaced the TXV with a new one

I have upgraded to a higher air flow fan and will relocating the charging ports to the front trunk for easier access.

I hope to have all the hoses routed this weekend and will pull a vacuum the following weekend and charge her up with R134a

Lets hope mine works like yours...........ICE ICE baby

Cheers

Kerry,

The hoses don't actually go through the longitudinals, they go on the outside of them just underneath the rocker panels. There are wire brackets that mount the two hoses at four locations along the longitudinal. They then bend gently into the read fender well - there is a huge pocket there. From there they come into the engine bay through two separate holes, just forward of the battery tray.

You'll also want to review routing in the front wheel well, as it is possible that your tire can rub the hoses under hard cornering (ask me how I know). I'll try to get some pictures of my setup in the next day or so.

Regards,

This is my hose routing as installed last month in a v8 conversion. I followed the dealer installed route with just a few exceptions. Let me know if this is not enough detail and I'll add a few more.

Thanks for the photo's

My '74 has boxed piece here?? I don't think there is room to go around the boxed section. Your car looks like it has a gusset type support, like the rest of the long supports on my car.

Any chance of getting a few close-ups

Cheers
Kerry

This is the only other shot I have of this area. Not much to worry about here. Cut out what you need to route both hoses through this brace. Mine is cut out to follow the pattern of brace, leaving about 3/8" of material of brace remaining.

Yes, this is the area to cut out. It's no real science. Just cut hole large enough for both hoses to pass through.

kerry,

Mine is boxed (a 74) like yours, but has the holes in it that John is suggesting. Should be no problem.

Keep us posted.
