can you take a 914 trans and put it in a 911? can you spin the rearend and change the nose? i have a 1972 911 euro t, i am running out of money and time and had the idea of making it a 912E, if only for a short time.

1. Flip the ring and pinion
2. 911 shift rod(inside trans)to comply with nose. 3. nose for 911 4. gasket set 5. Or buy used 901 for 911 for $500.00(so much easier)

You will need to change the flywheel to the 1969 911 flywheel. The 72 911 will have the "915" gearbox, while the 914's is a "901". The two have different input shafts, and use different flywheels because of that.
I don't know exactly what the difference is in the linkage, but you may need more parts off the 911-version of the 901 than just the nose cone... I know people who have gotten 915 boxes for $500, or rebuilt ones for $1500. I think the thing to do is to get a 915 gearbox and not try to adapt the 914's gearbox. I believe you will roughly break even in the expense, and the extra time (even at a dollar per hour) would make the 915 box the better value. --DD

you have a 72 911.... you want to back date the trans.... AND MAKE IT INTO A 912???????????
Darwin awards anyone? Heres what to do....work, save, watch VH1 when you get board, keep working, keep saving, do not by any means hury this project along. Do it right. Its such a simple thing we are talking about here, a transmission. Its a rare car enough as it is, don't be THAT bastered owner that someone in the future fixes everythying that you messed up because your retarded impatiant ass needed to be seen as a Porsche owner NOW. Please. Take your time. I've been working on my project for 2years now, the only reason i still have it is because i make sure i have room for it where ever i move. If i ever do not have the room, i will sell it to someone with the patience to make the car right. And my car is a 73 4 cylinder chassis. Its not even a true 6. You have a rare car, if you want to drive now, you can sell yours or even traid it for a 71 or 73 thats in great condition. There are people out there that want 72 chassis bad... bad enough for a traid of a much nicer looking/running car. Most people on this board are cheap, and know nothing of the 4th door 72. For them to understand, ask them if they would take an original factory 6 gt and put a 1.7 TIV motor in it (note, the factory chassis did not come with the motor mounts for the 4, so you would need to weld those in). PS. the 912 motor mounts are different, you'll need to weld on mounts to the chassis to accept the 912 engine bar.
