Question Glass roof

I have recently lost my targa roof. Just wondering if Porsche or any aftermarket company ever made a glass targa top like for vetts for the 914?
thanks

Yeah, a terrible POS, that shrinks, leaks, and turns your car into a convection oven.

They have been out of production nearly as long as I have been driving, you are looking for a Saratoga.

Be prepared to pay 10-20 times what they are worth, for a clean one. ($1000)

I sold my slightly scratched one a couple of years ago for $780. It fit so poorly I was afraid to drive with it. I always thought it would be a cool gimmick if you were to enter your car in a concourse event with one.

There is a photo of a Saratoga Top on my Collectibles webpage at the link in my signature below.

Click on 'Accessories' and scroll down to the link for 'Saratoga Top'.

Rumor has it that there is a guy in Boulder (CO)
that has been restoring targa tops off of Porsche's, Ferrari's, and Lotus' for about twenty years and he has designed and manufactured some alternative tops for sertain cars, one of them being a tinted glass targa for the 914, and the other being a split unit that allows one to take off just one side of the top. Supposedly, the fit and finish are of very high quality which I cartainly believe because i have seen a few of his 911 targa top restos and they were flawless. I mean, Pebble Beach flawless. I will see what I can find out and get a phone number if you would like....Let me know...Peter

Here's a picture of my Saratoga top on my 914.

Definitely a "jet fighter cockpit" effect when driving with it on!

I like the look, always have. Did you test it in the rain over the past few days for leaks, or is yours pretty tight? All that's needed now is instrument heads-up display on the windsheld.

Driving in the rain with a Saratoga top is a trip. I use ample Rain-X on the windshield and keep the Saratoga top polished-up nice and slick using Maguires's plastic polish. The rain drops hit the windshield and flow over the car, creating a sensation like the stars passing by the windshield of the Millenium Falcon in Star Wars!

The weatherstriping on the Saratoga top is actually much better than the stock targa top around the side windows and I rarely see any drops on the inside. Not the same story with the stock targa, even with new seals!

Hey, Darryl, are those CocoMats in your floor? How long have you had them and how do you like 'em?

Hey JohnB!

Yes, those are cocomats in my 914. I've had them for 10 years and as you can see they hold up very well. These are looking a bit faded now from driving with the top off.

What I don't like about them is the dirt filters through them and into the carpet below, which violates the whole point to having floor mats!

Darryl, you should get new ones, if I can be so bold to say.

The new ones have a solid rubber sheet with grabbers so they dont move around, and so the dirt doesn't make it to the carpeting beneath...

The ones I currently have are $35 JC Whitney specials. Maybe new fangled ones when the old ones fade too much or wear out. I can put a lot of quarters in the carwash vacuum for the price of those rubber backed ones!
