Oil for break-in
Otay, here's another one from me that I'll need to know soon - What oil is recommended for break in, and when to change it, and what to put in after that, and when to change THAT? I'm using white lithium grease as per Wilson's book, and will follow the proper break in procedures as best I can (2000 rpm for 20 minutes, loading/unloading engine to break in rings, blah blah blah).
One of my Crusty Buds says after all is said and done to throw in a bottle of Mobil one after it's broken in, but he's a Mopar guy, and lives on a old farm, and ............. Should I listen to him? After all, he does have all his teeth. ![]() Jeffro

Don't use synthetic for the break-in. I would run whatever weight you are going to run "for real".
I changed the oil like an obsessive-compulsive during break-in. After the 20-minute session for the cam, after 50 miles, after 100 miles, after 500 miles, and again at 3,000 miles which is where my 3K mile routine started. I did a valve adjust at every one of those, and started the regular every-other-oil-change adjust routine at 6,000 miles. I know other people whose opinions differ on this... --DD

Jesus Dave! You need a girl friend!! Just kidding, I just used a standard oil for the break in, and changed mine at 100 miles, and then 1,500, at which I resumed my normal intervals. I checked my valves at those times, but didn't notice much change.
