Sad question

Well as some of you guys know I am going leaving for college in two months in Flagstaff and I can't keep the 914 any more.

My question is:
Whats a good replacement car that won't cost a lost of money but will still give me the excitement factor that this did?

I want it to be japanese, and a coupe.

Right now I'm thinking 240sx, prelude, crx si, etc.

So yeah, what do you guys think?

Thanks

Adam

I own a 1990 CRX si. Nice car, damn near bulletproof. Exceedingly fun to drive, handles quite well. More power than a stock 914, about the same weight.

Nowhere near as much fun to drive as the 914.

I had a '86 CRX si and '85 Corolla GTS before I bought my 914. Both are fun car and bullet-proof, but I like the Corolla better. I think the old school GTS is hot now and hard to find though.

This is probably a little out of your price range, but I drove a Honda S2000 on the weekend, and it was awesome. That was the first time I had ever considered buying a Honda before.

Another car I've heard a lot good about is a Mazda Miata. Sporty, supposed to handle very well, and a convertible. Sounds good to me.

I wonder what the next generation Boxster is going to be like. I hope it's a little more muscular looking. Same for VW's concept R roadster (if they build it).

I had a 323GTX for awhile. IF you can find one, they are a blast to drive, great in all weather, handle well and you can have fun modifying it.

Adam,

Along the same lines as the Honda CRX, you might want to consider a Del Sol. Typical Honda dependablity plus you can still
go topless, just like the 914. It's also a fun car to drive.

I have a few ideas for you-
1. MR2. High quality, bullet proof, mid engine, great gas mileage, and pretty cheap.
2. 240sx. Handle great, Rear wheel drive!, pretty good power, extremely tuff motor. (It's what they used for many years in their trucks)
3. Prelude. I just love the old school preludes. They are quite small, great gas mileage, and good power.

In my opinion the only one in the lower price ranges that will push your buttons the same/ or near the porshce will be the mr2. I used to have an 91 mr2, and it was awsome. It handle just as good as the 914, and was far more refined. Power is about equal to a slightly modded 2.0 914.

But, opinions are like....
Everybody has one!

I was thinking 240sx because they are so close to the 944

yeah, the 240's are great. And, when you get in a position to upgrade, you can bolt in a skyline motor. How cool is that? For about 5k you can go from about 150hp to about 300!

oh, I forgot to post this too-make sure you get a 90+ model. They have the dohc motor, and make a fair amount more power, and rev higher. My favorite models are from 90-94 when they had pop up headlights, and were quite a bit smaller. 95 saw some improvements, but more weight too.

Del Sol is actually pronounced "Del Slow." Stick with something that is RWD and has a bit more mustard.

well it looks like this sad question is turning into a more happy question as my car dissapointed me majorly today.

I died and had some very loud popping noises everytime it died.

I thinks its either a bad coil or bad distributer

Ideas?

Thanks

Adam
