Congratulations Gerard! Nothing like a road trip to shake out the bugs, as unpleasant as it can be sometimes. So what part of Illinois did you go? That's where I was born and raised.

Cool guy!

Our family had a reunion in Kewanee where I grew up and my parents still live. The weather was great and so were the fireworks. My brother put on a 1.5 hour fireworks show in my parents back yard (outside of city limits).

The city was celebrating 150 years and their fireworks were 45 minutes long and very cool. We had a front row seat for both. Awesome!

Perhaps I am missing some key information, so forgive me for asking, but...What is the deal with the resistor you kept replacing? What is its function? If the resistor is discolored, it means it is passing too much current. Sounds like a 1 watt resistor would be the way to go. If that was the only problem with the set-up (aside from the fuel pump ), then I would call it a success! Congrats!

balthazar,

The resistor in question is part of the coil circuitry on the MS board. With the stock ignition system, a 460 Ohm 1/2-watt resistor was adequate. But with the new Permatune the voltage was obviously higher for the negative coil (tach) signal - which is where MS gets the coil signal from.

I was planning to bump up the wattage on the resistor, but the Radio Shack in Kewanee ddn't have the size I needed, so I just planned on finishing it when I got home. Except it started failing before I got here. Which is why I decided to try the two 1/2-watts in series.

Yes I agree that it was definately a success.

Kee-whiney? We always used to go through there when coming back to Galesburg from Chicago... Girl I used to hang out with (dated a friend of hers) came from there, too, now that I think of it! Most of my memories were rolling slowly through town at night, windows open, letting the warm muggy air through the car.

Dang, that was quite a while ago, wasn't it??

I miss that smell of cornfields and hay on those warm summer nights in west central Illinois, cruisin in my old convertible with the top down (or was that hers ???). Ahh, those were the days...

And of course the best "cruising" feature is the S curve near Division street. The teener sure loves whipping around those curves.
