Missing Air Filter hose
As a new owner, I hate to use up my "quota of dumb questions" too early. But here goes. The 2.0 liter 76 Calif motor pictured is missing a hose at what looks to be 6 O'clock in this picture. Any ideas?

Hi. ...my 76 2.0L also has that open hose port. I believe that was supposed to be for a charcoal canister connection (for fuel) but was not in the 76 2.0L. Just plug the hole.

Thanks for the response. PO told me nothing had been modified and he seemed pretty attentive to details. So I was hoping nothing was missing.
Claremont, huh? Know a good shop that can re-attach my broken rear trunk hood?

I was trying to find one too but have not gone to one, sorry. If it's just welding stuff, any body shop should be able to do it.
If you do an internet search, something might come up in your area.

Missing Air Filter Hose
I just bought a '76 2.0 myself. Is yours smogged? I currently have a temp operating permit for mine. I am also missing some bits and pieces from my emissions system.

Yes, it's smogged. The computer printout from the smog station should say that the open port on the air filter housing or provision for the charcoal canister is not being used. You should be o.k. with it plugged as far as I know.

Glad to hear the input. My "new" 76 is not yet smogged. It has been with an "inoperable permit" for the last few years.
I did get it to run yesterday, and and soon as I can resolve the starter issues I will attempt the smog test.

'76 smog
Does yours have all the pieces. Mine is missing a couple and the pump is bad. Got a temporary 90 permit so I can drive it for awhile.

Thanks for all the help. I have one more missing link.
The pictured valve (I think Calif. only) has a short vacuum hose attached with no where to go. Any ideas? ![]()

The hose that you are referring to, I beleive, is open to the environment. That's the way it is supposed to be. I do not currnetly have one attached on my '76 at all. I've been told that from the factory it was usually ony 3"-4" long and was just hanging loose there.
Do a search in the archives on "hose diagram" and you should be able to come up with a nice routing guide for all of the hoses. If I come across it I will PM you.

I believe that hose is to activate the EGR (Exhaust Recirculation Valve). Check out the hose connections in the Haynes Manual or Porsche Handbook. The hose if I remember is connected to the bottom box below the throttle body. The vacuum in the box should activate the EGR. Mine is connected to a tee (from the vacuum box) which is also connects to the deceleration valve.

I think that the skinny hose pictured should T into the vacuum advance line going from the right-front side of the throttle body (on a 2.0!) to the distributor vacuum fitting that faces away from the distributor body. If you check the 75 1.8 hose diagram on our site, I believe you'll find that's where it hooks in. I know the 1.8's L-jet is not the 2.0's D-jet, but I think that the EGR valve hooks up the same way.
The unoccupied fitting in the first picture would likely go to the Decel Valve, which should live on the same bracket as the MPS over on the right side of the engine bay. Other hoses that get hooked into the air cleaner would go to: The AAR (left-front of the intake air distributor/manifold/plenum/whatever ya wanna call it) ; the charcoal cannister (should be hanging off the battery tray or somewhere in the engine bay on a late-74+ car) ; the "flashback valve" (funny T up next to the cross-shaft connecting the thermostat flaps in front of the oil filler). --DD
