914 horn button
When I bought my 914 the horn pad was off the steerinng wheel. It is missing whatever holds it to the steerng wheel. If you attach the pad to the wheel it just wobbles and falls off.
Pelican shows a horn button center support. What is it ??? |

It just kinda twists on and off.
There should be a rubber thingy in the center that functions as a spring to keep the horn contacts apart unless you press on the center pad but aside from that it just twists on.

ok so it's just the ruber spacer that I am missing. So it just pops into place or is there something else I need to buy to hold it in place???

not sure what your idea of "pops in place" but i would describe the horn button attachment like putting a "lid on a jar" kind of attachment. you have to rotate the horn pad to remove (counterclockwise i think) and reverse to install. haynes may have a pix.

The rubber spacer has a nipple that "pops" into a hole in the pad. It will be clear as mud when you find a spacer.

I think Haynes has a pic. Check through it in the "front axle and steering" section, I think. The dingus we're talking about looks kinda like the rubber part of a very small toilet plunger. The small end pops into a hole on the back side of the horn button, and the other end sits on the steering column around the nut that holds the wheel on.
With the rubber dingus plugged into the back side of the button, all you have to do is plug in the horn wire (early cars have a separate contact switch so I don't think they even need to do that!) and put the button on twisted about 30 degrees to the left, then push in and twist to the right. --DD

thanks for all the replies. I ordered my horn support and a new set of shocks. I just painted the 914 last night after months of prep work. It turned out real nice. I hated to ask such a silly question but there was alot of stuff missing from this car when I bought it.
