Quick Question on Cleaning Injectors

This is not for my 914 but I know this board is full of experts.

I'm replacing the injector seals on my 1988 BMW 528e and I was wondering: will soaking the injectors in injector cleaner or carb cleaner do any good?

I've used about 4 bottles of Redline injector cleaner but the car still surges. I've replace all of the vaccum lines except the injector seals (doing tonight) and I'm hoping to solve my problem.

Any advice would be great...................thanks.............Vern

Maybe the problem isn't the injectors. Check the throttle switch also.

Do they fire and distribute evenly? Do a search for injectors and jars, you should see a neat little redneck test. they may be past saving, although if this started happening suddenly, I doubt it.

The car is going into the shop tomorrow to get the timing belt changed & valves adjusted. I'll see if they can check the throttle switch too.

It's amazing how similar (but way different) the bmw injection is to the 914. If it weren't for my 914 and everything I have fixed, over the years, I'd be clueless. I wish the 914 had as many sensors as the BMW cause it usually runs flawlessly.

I didn't have enough time to replade the fuel injector seals cause I did the brakes instead - but I am going to do that tomorrow.

The reason I suspect the seals is becuase the problem only exists during the 1st 1/2 hour warm up. Once the engine is really warm - it runs perfect. This is why I suspect a vaccum leak of some kind. I've already replaced all of the vaccum lines. We'll see if adjusting the valves helps - there starting to tick lightly.

Thanks for the advice.......................Vern
