1.7 liter compression

Just did a compression check on my 1.7. All cylinders are around 120 lbs +or- 5 lbs. Is this good for a 1.7 and how much life is left on it ???

i would say yes, it's good, but mostly because all the readings are within 10% of one another.....

I'd venture to say the bottom end looks almost new. Just drive it till it smokes a little, and then re-ring it and do the valves.

Compression test results can vary depending on a whole slew of factors (e.g., your altitude, what kind of shape the battery and starter and connections are in, if the engine is warm or cold, all spark plugs in or out, throttle open or not, etc.) so a general "it's fine/it's dead" is not always easy to see.

That said, I would think that 120 is OK for a 1.7; all within <5% is definitely a good sign. I'd say just go ahead and drive it.

Thanks guys. Hey Jason....I am thinking about going nuts with the 2 liter block that has been sitting in my garage. Just waiting on 2 factors....1 being money, and 2 being the current lifter quality situation. Im fantasizing of a 2.2 but a 2056 would be great too. Jason, have you built many motors?? I am in San Diego also.
