Just bought a 75 914, need advice
Hi, I just bought a 914 and I am wondering first of all if anyone can recommend a good shop in the Toronto area. Secondly if I want to do just some mild improvements to the engine without going crazy- where should I start, and last I can't stand the big rubber bumpers on the 75, can I change for aan earlier model, or perhaps glass ones and where should I get them, thanks for any help.

For a 75 2.0l you can change to the early style heat exchangers and muffler and gain 8hp. The later HE's rob power.

I would recommend the you keep visiting this site.
Over the years, I have found that in order to get good mechanical work done on my car - I, must know a little too. 914's are different & very few mechanics have experience working on them. There are quite a few books out there and my personal favorite - "914 Tech Tips 700" by Dr. 914. This book has answered almost all of my questions. Lastly, before making any "mild improvements" - I would first get the car in perfect stock shape. With only slight improvements to my car (i.e., changing vaccum & fuel lines, tuneup, adjust valves), I increased my car's performance substantially. Remember, on an 85hp motor - it dosen't take much to make noticable hp gains. Vern |

All of these suggestions are good, I installed fiberglass bumpers from Rennspeed, he is located up in Arcadia and has good quality products for a very good price. You will lose weight off your car subsatantially by going this route. As for a mechanic. the heat exchangers are not that difficult to install and I am sure you could do it yourself if you worked on british cars before. There is another site you may want to visit that has a lot more activity on it and more very knowledgeable people on it at any given time. www.914club.com. Membership is free and there is a lot of great people there and tons of information about your car and events. Good luck with your car and I hope to see you there.
