GRRRR!
What type of hose can handle the heat and still fit the cyl head vents ? I have a kit that the hoses seem to turn to brittle plastic and crack apart right at the head, resulting in a puddle of hot 20/50 on the driver's side engine tin, oozing onto the head, drizzling onto the HE, splooging into the heaterbox, and fragrantly aroma-cising into the passenger compartment. I've cut the end off and replaced the clamp twice, but the hose keeps falling apart like a Chinese motorcycle. I've been chasing a couple leaks - this is one, followed by the valve cover gasket that wasn't seated from my last valve adjust. Now, it looks like the tranny leaks a little, it never did before. How wonderful! Also, what do y'all do for oil cooling in hotter weather? If I'm heavy footed in the heat, my oil temp gets up to 210-215, and my pressure drops a little. It still runs OK, but I'm a little worried. Should I have an external cooler for the 2056? It's just dandy when it's cooler out, not getting past 180, but when it gets hot out the temp rises if I'm rough with it - it even stalled once at a light (it lit back up though) and drove fine. I haven't had time to put in my new 050 dist yet, could the 009 be causing it to run hot like this as well? I dunno, what do you think? Cheers ![]() Jeff

You might try some of the cloth covered German neopreme hose, that is what is on our 1974 914. On my race car I use Parker Kevlar lined hose although it does not fit quite as well since it is in American sizes only.

An oil temp of 215F is just dandy. In fact, I prefer 210F over 180F, as the water in the oil will outgas much more quickly with oil at or near 212F.

Thanks for the replies -
I'm just a little paranoid with the new motor - I guess it's probably fine. I watch the gauges more than I watch the road (!). Last night it was kinda cool out, and I opened 'er up a little on the x-way at night coming home. A Ford F-somethinghuge was giving me the business, on my bumper, then switching lanes to pass, so I slipped over and got it up to about 95 for a few miles - he couldn't keep up. I slowed back down to 60 and he went by like a runaway freight train . I looked at the gauges, and my oil temp was just under 200, my pressure was about 22-25 (2500rpms) but my head temp was 350! After I slowed down, the temp dropped back down to 250 - it got me a little worried a bit about dropping a seat or something. That was the only time I had done that since the rebuild, I had to see if it would hold together I guess. Does all that sound normal? Also, does PP sell the German neoprene hose? It seems like a few feet of that would solve the oil dilemma nicely, as well as looking, well, "German". Giorno Buono Jeff It's raining here - again

temps of 180-225 are acceptable... I personally like 210 degrees. a 2056 should not need an external cooler, unless its highly tuned, or coupled with super short gearing.

Jake, how about the head temp and the stalling when hot - or do I just need to mellow out and start drinking decaf?

350 on the heads is what stock always runs.... hot isn't till yoiu are at 375 at cruise or 400 on a hill.
